Webber on pole as Red Bull fill front row

Mark Webber will start tomorrow's British grand prix on pole position with his team mate Sebastian Vettel alongside on the front row in a rain affected qualifying.

It was a relief when Q1 got underway with all of the blown diffuser controversy beforehand and Fernando Alonso immediately livening things up by losing control at the luffield hairpin and was lucky to get out of the gravel trap and continue.

Then the rain came and Jaime Alguersuari was most affected as he just come out of the soft tyres and was not able to improve his time.

Mark Webber was fastest while new boy Daniel Ricciardo, Vinantonio Liuzzi, Jerome d'Ambrosio, Jarno Trulli, Timo Glock, Sebastian Buemi and Alguersuari was knocked out.

As the track dried out in Q2, everyone started tentatively and try to feel there way round the track. As the drivers grew in confidence, Felipe Massa eventually came out on top with Heikki Kovalainen, Nick Heidfeld, Rubens Barrichello, Vitaly Petrov, Michael Schumacher, Sergi Perez, and Adrian Sutil knocked out.

In Q3, everyone was restricted to just 1 run after the rain came again with 3 minutes to go. That made it easy for Mark Webber after he was top early on and Lewsi Hamilton suffered badly after he put on a used set of soft tyres for his first run and ended up 10th.

The grid: P1 Webber, P2 Vettel, P3 Alonso, P4 Massa, P5 Button, P6 Di Resta, P7 Maldonado, P8 Kobayashi, P9 Rosberg, P10 Hamilton, P11 Sutil, P12 Perez, P13 Schumacher, P14 Petrov, P15 Barrichello, P16 Heidfeld, P17, Kovalainen, P18 Alguersuari, P19 Buemi, P20 Trulli, P21 Glock, P22 d'Ambrosio, P23 Liuzzi, P24 Ricciardo
