Europe League British Round Up

Yesterday had a full set of matches in the Europa League. Firstly

Liverpool- Liverpool scraped through in there round of last 32 match against Sparta Prague. It was a late header by Kuyt from Raul Meireles cross to give Liverpool the victory 1-0. It was a game that Liverpool had a lot of chances to win as Kyrgiakos, Meireles and Ngog had chances for host to put them in the lead before Kuyt scored an late goal. Joe Cole had a chance to finish the tie off late on but it was well saved by Blazek. It was a sell-out at Anfield making it like a proper good old fashioned European night that King Kenny would love. The down side to this victory was that Center backs Kelly and Agger went off injured. Liverpool won 1-0 on night and (1-0) over to legs.

Rangers- Probably the most impressive of the home teams as they went away at Sporting and came away with a victory on the away goals rule. Diouf gave the visitors the lead after an Davis cross which Diouf headed in from close range. But 3 mins before half time Mendes (former Rangers player) curled in the equalizer. The second half was very open as both teams had chances to put there team ahead but there was no break through until Djalo had a free header to put Sporting in the lead with only 8 mins left with any injury time. But Maurice Edu scored an injury time equalizer to make himself the hero of the moment. The score ended 2-2 and (3-3) which meant Rangers went through on the away goals rule.

Man City- For Man City it was an easier night then there British counterparts. The 27 million pound striker Dzeko scored 2 goals in the first 12 mins in the game. The tie was effectively over then. Dzeko first goal came from a run in the penalty area which he drove in himself. The second goal came from Tevez pass to Dzeko as he scored at the bottom left hand corner. In an attacking line Man City played Aris could not hold them (with Balotelli, Dzeko and Tevez upfront with Silva behind them). All 3 strikers had chances to score but it was Ya Ya Toure near the end of the second half to put the finishing touch to the victory as he scored an long distance shot to put the game save.
