A match with a few chances and few risks. It was more of a tense night in the intimidating Vélodrome stadium. In a quiet first half Fletcher had the best chance as he fired a 20 yard shot which the goalkeeper Mandanda saved well to his right. Marseille were strong, powerful, organised but they lacked that creativity and that was the story of the first half. Man U did push in the first half but they were playing a lone striker (Berbatov) and delivery to him wasnt good enough from Nani and Rooney (who was playing left mid)
The second half Man U started the better of the two teams changing there formation to a 4-3-3 where Nani and Rooney were supporting Berbatov more in the match. Man U nearly benefited when Rooney cross was spilled by the goalkeeper and before Nani could head it in the x Man U defender headed it away. Marseille then had there best chance when Andre Ayew was in a good position and dragged a shot wide which he should have made the goalkeeper at least work for.
But as the game went on it was clear that both teams were satisfied by the draw and the game started to fizzle out. Just before the end Rooney seemed to be pulled down from a promising break and it seemed he might have broken free if he wasnt pulled down but the ref saw it differently and saw it as a fair tackle and that ended a poor match 0-0.
I do not know who the favorites would be with this 0-0 score. On the one hand Marseille will be happy as they havnt conceded an away goal and might feel they can get a score draw or even win at Man U but Man U will think they have had the better score because they play so well at home and have not lost a home match yet. I still put Man U favorites to go through but it will be an close match. Closer than I thought but I will say either 2-1 Man U or 3-1.
