Tennis- This is Davis Cup weekend and for team GB is playing Tunisia in Bolton. It was the Tunisia's who took first blood as Malek Jaziri the world number 325 beat Jamie Baker world number 406 in 4 sets. The first set Baker won 4-6 but he came storming back winning the next 3 6-3 7-5 6-2. The crutual set was the 3rd one once he got that break at the end of the set it took the wind out of Baker tail. But Britain's number 1 James Ward *as Murray wasnt available for this tie) got things back on track. He is ranked 214 and he blew away Sami Ghorbel whos ranking is outside the top 1000. (I will have a round of the scores of the other countries tomorrow.)
In other Tennis news Serena Williams has recovering from her emergency operation. She is back at home and is hoping to make an "early summer,". She hasnt played since winning Wimbledon last year and has been out since cutting her foot on glass in a restaurant while celebrating her victory at Wimbledon. She is unlikely to play at French and her defense of her Wimbledon title.
Rugby 6 nations- Will Carling has criticized the Wales team and there coach Warren Gatland. They play to restrict Rugby and they should be play more open. James Hook should be "set more free". He feels there talent is not been best used.
Celtic and Rangers - Neil Lennon is facing an 8 match touch line ban after his bust up with Ranger's assistant manager and soon to be manager Ally McCois. He is to face an 2 match suspension for going at McCoist and is expected to double because of his past record. He stands for 4 matches but as it is his second time it could be doubled whilst McCoist is expected to get off lightly as it is his first offence. The Scottish Football Association will wait till the referee's report before the next course of action is taken.
Cricket- Mark Ramprakash has signed a new 1 year contract to stay at Surrey for at least one more season. He said "I am still enjoying my cricket, maintaining my fitness and am still able to score runs for Surrey. Extending my contract was a very simple decision for me." Ramprakash has scored an remarkable 100 centuries at country cricket and he is one of 25 players to ever do it. He might miss the start of the season because of Knee injury.
Rugby League- Daryl Powell has been appointed as assistant to the England Rugby League team. He is a former Great Britain player playing for them 33 times. He will be joined by James Lowes, who is the other assistant manager. There first matches will happen at the end of the season when Steve McNamara play in the 4 nations.
Table tennis- Team GB will have full table tennis team at the London 2012 Olympics. They automatically qualify as host nation. The British Olympic Association decides on weather they get in automatically. They join handball, volleyball and weightlifting given automatic qualification. Basketball is also been offered but but they need clearance from the International Basketball Federation.
And Finally, Fifa have said goal-line technology is unlikely to come in fast. They say the technology is there but getting agreement and getting things sorted will take time. They want a system which will be 100% right all the time so they want to get the system right first time so they will take there time in making the technology as perfect as possible.
