Arsenal's big wreck delights "Big Eck" as Birmingham triumph in final

Alex Mcleish and Birmingham's players and fans were left ecstatic as Obafemi Martins reacted quickest to a fatal mix-up between Arsenal keeper Wojciech Szczesny and defender Laurent Koscielny and scored what proved to be the winning goal in the Carling Cup final at Wembley Which delighted Birmingham manager Alex Mcleish.

Martins, on loan from Russian side Rubin Kazan, come on as a late substitute for midfielder Keith Fahey had the simplest of finishes and sent the Birmingham fans into ecstasy and extended Arsenal's six year wait for a trophy.

Nikola Zigic's delicate header gave Birmingham the lead before Arsenal's Jack Wilshire hitting the bar at the other end and Robin van Persie scoring the equalizer with a technically brilliant volley beating Birmingham Keeper and man of the match Ben Foster.

Foster was magnificent throughout, denying Samir Nasri on three occasions and also saving brilliantly from Andrey Arshavin and Nicklas Bendtner.

Birmingham, who hit the woodwork through Fahey, were a model of determination and resilience as well as positive intent and their success was a tribute to the outstanding work of Alex Mcleish.

There was a moment of contention almost instantly with Lee Bowyer raced clear into the penalty area and was hauled down by Szczesny but no penalty was given because the linesman wrongly give an offside decision.

but the Birmingham fans won't care about that because this is there first major trophy since 1963.
