Man Utd 1 - 0 Crawley Town- Crawley town the lowest team left in the competition gave an great effort at Old Trafford as Wes Brown header Crawley out of the competition. The nearest Crawley came to causing the upset is when Richard Brodie headed a shot onto the bar. The frustration of Ferguson was apparent as Rooney was brought on for the start of the second half. But Crawley had the best chances as they hit a volley just wide and overhead kick just over. The shock would have been complete if Brodie had scored with that header in the end. Crawley can go back proud and Man U had done there job but was far from impresive or clinical.
Birmingham 3 - 0 Sheff Wed- This was an much easier match for the prem league team. The result was never in doubt when Beausejour scored his first goal for the club in the 6th min. Martins scored after 17 mins when he was but through by Helb and it became plain sailing for Birmingham. From a corner the goalkeeper for Sheff Wednesday punched it straight to Murphy to put Birmingham into a 3-0 lead. Sheff Wed did push but didnt really create many clear chances and Wednesday lost again. Trouble for Sheff Wed but joy for Birmingham as now they can concentrate on the carling cup final next week. The only down side to this victory was that Hleb got injured and if he isnt fit for the final he will surely be replaced by Bentley who came on for him in this match.
Stoke 3 - 0 Brighton- Stoke had an easy victory as they scored there 3 goals in the first half in this match against high flying Brighton. Stoke are taking this cup seriously as they put out a strong squad as they are getting towards prem league safety. John Carew gave the hosts the lead when he headed in a Rory Delap throw. Walters slotted in the second goal from a cross from Wilson. Game was over just before half time when Shawcross headed in a cross from Pennant and a flick on by Wilson to finish the game over before half time. Brighton only had a few chances in the whole match from Ashley Barnes got Sorensen his first save and and substitutes Baz and Caskey nearly scored for the visitors.
