London 2012- The Olympics is fast coming up and the first stadium has been completed as the velodrome was opened last night. It came in on budget £93m. Its a 6,000 all seater stadium. Lord Coe described it as "a stunning venue built for champions". It took 26 carpenters eight weeks to install. With all the work they hope this will be one of the fastest tracks ever but we will see when the games start. A team of British sprint stars all aiming for success at next year's Games have also given the chance to ride on it.
After the Games, the velodrome will be used by elite athletes and the local community. It will include a cafe, bike hire and cycle workshop facilities as this is part of there legacy promise. For Team GB the cycling was the most successful event in Beijing.
Rugby- France have rung the changes as they look to retain the 6 nations. Back row Sebastien Chabal, wing Vincent Clerc, scrum-half Dimitri Yachvili and centre Yannick Jauzion are recalled. They have identified Ashton to stop and they will use there experience of stopping Jason Robinson to use similar tactics.
Snooker- Higgins has won back to back Welsh opens. It was a great comeback as the Maguire was 5-3 up in the mid interval. But in the evening Maguire had no chance as Higgins played really well and only lost 1 frame and came back to win 9-6.
Formula 1- As expected because of the political unrest in Bahrain the first Grand Prix. Interestingly it hasn't been ruled out being a race this year but it will be hard to fit in a race later on in the year. The teams are happy about this as they feel its not right to go there.
I will have a cycling round up tomorrow and either today or tomorrow I will have a round up of the cricket world cup where England are playing there first match in the world cup and other news in the cricket world cup.
