Cricket world cup- Group A

The 4 teams which will be playing in the quarter final has been decided over this weekend. Before the weekend Sri Lanka were already through they were joined by Australia, New Zealand and Pakistan today.

Australia got there with an victory against Kenya. Australia were not at there best and looked as an team which hasn't played a proper match for 2 weeks and it showed in there performance. Australia were at one point 143-4 but Clarke scored an vital 94 and the returning Hussey scored 54. Earlier on Haddin scored 64 as Australia made 324-6.

Kenya looked to have another batting failure as they slumped to 46-3. Chris Obuya and Mishra had an partnership of 115. In that partnership Mishra scored an brisk 72 off 89 balls before he was run out by Clarke. But Obuya was the star scoring an agonising 98 NO. He had good support from Odoyo as well as he scored an quick 35 off 38 balls. Kenya were never likely to get to there score but they gave good fight as they made 264-6 in 0 overs. But in the context of the match they lost by 60 runs.

New Zealand got there with another impressive batting performance. This time the opener McCullum scored an quick century off 109 balls which included 12 fours and 2 sixes. The star of last match Taylor hit an quick fire 74 off 44 balls which included 6 fours and 5 sixes. Franklin scored an quick31 off 8 balls 2 fours and 3 sixes as New Zealand scored 358-6 off there 50.

Canada put up an good performance with the bat as put up an good fight. It didnt start off too well as they were 3 down for 50 runs but Bagai and Bagai put on an 125 partnership as New Zealand were made to work hard for there wickets. Bagai was out eventually but after he scored 84 off 87 balls including 10 fours. Hansra went an bit slower but he was left not out at 70 of 105 balls including 4 fours and 1 six. Davison scored an useful 15 and Chauhan, the number 10 batsman, scored an quick fire 22 off 16 balls including 2 fours and an 6 and Canada did bat out the 50 overs but they were well short making 261-9 which was an 97 run defeat but Canada showed some fight and more impressively they the 50 overs.

Pakistan got there place to the quarter final by beating Zimbabwe in an rain effected match by 7 wickets. Zimbabwe won the toss and elected to bat but it didnt start too well for them as they were 3 down for just 19 runs and that turned even worse as there captain Taibu was out for 19 and they were 43-4. Ervine and Lamb tried to steady the innings but Afridi put an stop to that getting Lamb. Ervine did show some fight as he made an solid 52 off 82 balls which included 5 fours when Hafeez bowled him and Zimbabwe were 103-6. It looked like they were not going to make 150 in there 50 overs but Chigumbura and Utseya did some late hitting to get them 151-6 when Gul got Utseya out. The rain also came and Pakistan the innings was cut short after 151-7 off 39.4 overs.

Duckworth lewis method had to be used and it calculated that Pakistan needed 162 off 38 overs. It wasnt the best of starts as Shehzad went out early as he tried to smash Price out of the park but he missed the ball and Taibu stumped him. But Hafeez got them back on track as they were hitting the ball around the park. Hafeez was on for an half century until he skied an ball from Utseya and Price caught it. Afridi promoted himself up the order to push the innings on but he was soon out for 3 as Price bowled him. It was left to Younus Khan and Shafiq to get them home. Shafiq scored an impressive 78 NOoff 97 balls including 7 fours and Younus Khan gave him the support getting 13 to get Pakistan home and dry and through to the quarter final.
