Cricket world cup round up

England- After there super victory against South Africa England have been handed a double blow. Firstly Kevin Pietersen hernia problem got worse during the match against South Africa and is flying home today. He is expected to have an operation on it soon and will be out for 6 weeks. Broad has also been ruled out of the rest of the competition as he has had a side strain. England will replace Pietersen with Morgan. He was also ruled out of the world cup but his finger didn't need an operation and has heeled. The likely replacement of Broad is Tremlett. He has been standby for the whole world cup now is likely to get his chance.

Canada- Canada have got there first victory in this cricket world cup. It is there second victory in world cup history as they beat poor Kenya. Kenya had an terrible start losing there first 5 batsman for only 57 runs. Mishra and Kamande lead a bit of an fight back as they made an 52 partnership. There was also an good partnership between Mishra and Odoyo as they also put on 57 for the 7th wicket as they helped Kenya make it to 197 in there 50 overs. Mishra and Odoyo topped scored with 51. Osinde was the pick of the bowlers 10 over 2 maidens 26-4 with good support from Baidwan getting a couple of wickets and so did Cheema.

Canada replay was started off badly as they lost Gunasekera, Cheema and Surkari cheaply. But an super innings by Hansra and the captain Bagai (who was born in Dehli) got Canada got them to an easy victory. Hansra made an brilliant 70 which included 7 fours and 2 sixes off 99 balls. He was eventually out though to the hard working Odhiambo. Bagai was 64 not out. He scored 7 fours off 97 balls. Davison got them over the line with an boundary which was his first ball. They won by 5 wickets and 4 and a half overs to go.

Australia- Hussey will replace the injured Bollinger. Australia delayed naming an replacement for Bollinger as they wanted to see how Hessey would play in the domestic cup and if there was any reaction. Dirk Nannes will also travel with the team if there is any other bowling shortage he will come straight into the Australian team.

Ireland- Johnston is facing an race against time to be fit against West Indies. He fell on his knee during the defeat against India. If he isnt fit in time Botha, who was injured for the last two matches, will make his way back into the team.

India- There were violent scenes out Nagpur as fans were trying to get tickets for the India South Africa match on Saturday. Fans were reported to have broken barriers as fans tried to get to tickets offices. There was only 7000 tickets sold and police attacked fans with batons. This is the second time violence has happened at ticket offices. The last one happened when India were going to face England at Bangalore. The world cup website also crashed as fans tried to buy tickets online. There was only 1000 tickets available and the website had 10 million hits in 20 minutes.

New Zealand- Mixed news at the cricket world cup today as they beat Pakistan brilliantly but they might have lost there captain through injury. It was an superb effort by New Zealand as on a low slow pitch they made 302. That was well above average. The man who made it happen was Taylor (stand in skipper) scoring an incredible 131 off 124 balls which included 8 fours and 7 sixes. Guptill scored an useful 57 (Oram 25 off 9) and Naithen McCullum (19 off 10) score quick runs in the end. They scored 102 runs in the last 5 overs as Pakistan bowled one of the worst death bowling spells in world cup history. It was a shame for Pakistan as they bowled really well till then very tight.

Pakistan top order feel away very badly as they were never looked like getting close in this run chase. There top 5 batsman and only one of the batsman making double figures as Hafeez was out for 5, Shehzad 10, Kamran Akmal 8, Younus Khan 0 and Misbah-ul-Haq 7. The captain played an poor innings as they needed stability and Afridi went all out attack and he was out for 17 off 9 balls including 2 fours and an 6. Pakistan were 66-6. Misbah-ul-Haq. Umar Akmal did offer some resistance and played a good knock of 38 runs off 58 balls which included 3 fours. When he was out it was 102-7. Rehman didnt stick around for too long as he was out for just 1 off the bowling of McCullum spin. But Razzaq and Gul gave the Pakistan fans some entertainment as they hit an 50 partnership off 32 balls. Razzaq went on to get to his 50 off 62 balls which included 9 fours but the experienced Styris got for an entertaining 62 off 74 balls. Styris rapped up the innings as he got the final wicket of Shoaib Akhtar as Pakistan were 192 all out. The wickets were shared out between all the bowlers apart from Franklin. Southee taking 3 wickets Mills, McCullum and Styris taking 2 wickets each Oram getting 1. An convincing 110 victory New Zealand move onto Mumbai on Sunday to face Canada as Pakistan stay in Kandy to play Zimbabwe on Monday.

Vettori- During there win against Pakistan Vettori limped off which seemed to be an right knee injury. He will have a scan and will know the results in a few days time. Ross Taylor captained in his place. They will be desperate for him to be fit when they play against Canada this Sunday.
