Sports round up

England- There are reports saying that Ferdinand will loss the captaincy because of his injury problems even though Capello people say a decision has not been made. Talks with Gerrard has already been taken (it has been rumoured) and talks with Ferdinand will happen tonight before the Champions League match. Ferdinand is believed to be 'upset' about this.

London 2012- Today was the day where tickets went on sail for the Olympics as it is 500 days till the opening ceremony. Lord Coe says the ticket sales were "going well". It isnt a first come first serve base. You will have 6 weeks to book an ticket and events which is over subscribed there will be an lottery to see who gets tickets.

Tennis- Nadal eased into round 3 of the BNP Paribas Open Indian Wells Masters. He got through qualifier Ryan Sweeting 6-3,6-1. He joins Federer who beat Andreev 7-5,7-6 (7-4), Djokovic who raced past Golubev 6-0, 6-4, and Roddick who beat fellow American Blake 6-3,7-5. Del Potro, Robredo, Querrey and Montanes also got through to round 3. However Soderling is the one big name out losing to Kohlschreiber 7-6 (10-8) 6-4. He blamed injury saying "I hurt my foot last week in Davis Cup and since then it's been pretty bad. I couldn't give 100%," He went on to say "I lost the match when I decided to go out on court. It was stupid to play."

6 nations- After another exciting round of 6 nations matches England seemed to be closing in on the 6 nations trophy after winning the Calcutta cup against Scotland. This was far England's hardest test to date as Scotland gave an spirited showing. It was an tight first half which ended 9-9 after Jackson scored an drop goal right at the end of the half. But the turning point of the match happened when Barclay was sent to the sin bin on 57 min. England scored the penalty to give them an 3 point lead. They had 2 or 3 chances to get the try during Barclay sin bin but heroic Scottish defending stopped them until the very last attack before Barclay was due to come back on an great flowing England move ended with Croft being stronger than Paterson to dive in the corner. Wilkinson did the rest. Evans did score an late try converted by Paterson but Wilkinson made the game safe with an penalty to seal England victory 22-16.

There chances were strengthened by France losing surprisingly against Italy in Rome. It was a game that France were domintating for long periods of time and were at up point were 18-6 up at one point but with an try by Masi and Bergamasco did the rest. Bergamasco had an really good day with the boot as he kept hitting penalties over. France only scoring one penalty in the second half. There was only 2 points in it when Bergamasco had an penalty (with 5 minutes to go) to put Italy in the lead for the first time. He scored an brilliant penalty. This time Italy were able to hang on for the victory as the last attack for France was knocked on and Italy won an famous victory against Franc.e First win against France in the 6 nations.

Wales are the only team that can stop England from raising the trophy as they narrowly beat Ireland in an controversial game. Ireland started off well with O'Driscoll scoring the first try which O'Gara converted. O'Gara did score another 2 penalties but Hook was keeping Wales in it by slotting in 3 of his own. At half time they were 13-9 ahead. But the controversial moment happened in the second half where Ireland hit the ball out on the full. Wales caught the Irish unaware took an quick throw and Phillips scored an try but where the problem layed was that you can only take an quick throw only if you use the same ball and Wales didnt. So the try should not have counted. The try was converted by Hook and Halfpenny gave Wales an 6 point lead. But in the last minutes of the game Ireland had an chance of scoring an try in the final moments in the corner. But in needing an coverted try they decided not to play in in the corner but play it back infield. They didnt get the try in the end and were turned over and Wales played out the time to hit the ball straight out for an victory.

With that shock loss for France, France will not retain the 6 nations crown. Wales are the only nation to have an chance or stopping England but for that to happen England will need to loss heavily to Ireland and Wales will need to win well in Paris against France. Scotland and Italy will be playing for the wooden spoon.

Arsenal- Djourou has been rulled out for the rest of the season. He is expected to undergo surgery on the shoulder and but there is no broken bones or torn ligaments. This leaves Arsenal only 2 fit center backs Koscielny and Squillaci. Arsenal are also closing in on re-signing there former goalkeeper Jens Lehmann. The reason why they are looking to re-sign Lehmann because Szczesny,Fabianski and Mannone are all injured with Almunia the only fit goalkeeper left.
