Cricket world cup group stage matches group B

South Africa vs Bangladesh- South Africa finished off any hopes of Bangladesh reaching the quarter finals. Bangladesh knew that they had to win to get to the quarters but South Africa were just too strong. Bangladesh won the toss and put South Africa into bat. South Africa top order did the damage for the visitors Amla hit 51 and Smith 45 as the opening partnership put on 98. Even though they lost there openers and Duminy soon afterwards Kallis and du Plessis 82 run partnership to put South Africa into an good position. Kallis made 69 and du Plessis making 52. Peterson and Botha made some quick runs at the end to get South Africa 284-8 off there 50 overs.

The Bangladesh reply was nothing short of terrible as they were bowled out for an small 78. It was the second time they made an score less than 100 (only making 20 more than they did against the West Indies). Only Shakib, the captain, made it to double figures scoring 30 runs. The wicket takers were Peterson 4-12 off 7 overs with 3 maidens, Tsotsobe 3-14 off 5 with 2 maidens, with Botha and Tahir taking an wicket each. Parnell didn't get an wicket but did bowl 4 overs for 4 runs as South Africa won by an massive 206 runs. It means that South Africa wins the group.

India vs West Indies- With that victory for South Africa both of the teams were through. But India were the team which came out on top. With Sehwag injured and Tendulkar going out first over it gave other batsman a chance to shine. The players which stood up were Yuvraj Singh scoring an brilliant century and Kohli giving great support with 59. Yuvraj Singh hit his 100 off 112 balls including 10 fours and 1 six. They were bowled out in the last over. Rampaul getting 5 wickets with Russell taking 2 with Sammy, Bishoo and Pollard getting 1 each.

The West Indies reply started off well as Smith lead from the front with 81. He had good support from Edwards 17, Bravo 22 and Sarwan 39. The West Indies were in an good position at 154-2 before Zaheer Khan bowled Smith and the West Indies went on an even biger batting collapse as they went from 154-2 to 188 all out. Apart from the top 4 batsman none of the West Indies players made double figures as India won by 80 runs. Zaheer Khan getting 3 wickets for 26 runs in his 6 overs, Ashwin 2-41 in his 10, Yuvraj Singh 2-18 off 4 with Harbhajan and Raina getting an wicket each. That meant South Africa won the group with India finishing second, England 3rd and West Indies 4th.

In the other match of the group Ireland came out on top of the match against the Netherlands. Ireland chased down the 5 highest score in world cup history as the Netherlands set there 308 to win. Ten Doeschate scoring 106, the captain Borren 84 and Barresi scoring 44. There was 4 run outs in the very last over as they were bowled out for 307 in 50.

The replay started really well for Ireland as the captain Porterfield and Stirling put on 177 for the first wicket. In that partnership Stirling scored the 5th fastest century off 70 balls. They lost both openers soon afterwards and Joyce made an solid 28 but he went to Cooper Ireland were 233-3. It was up to Neil O'Brien and Wilson get them close to victory. O'Brien got to his 50. They looked confortable until Wilson edged a ball from Ten Doeschate to Buurman. It was left to Kevin O'Brien to hit off the winning runs. He hit an 6 soon after he got in and finished the game is style by hitting a 6 to get them to there victory with 2.2 overs remaining.

The bottom half of the table looked like this- Bangladesh finishing 5th with 6 points going out on Net Run Rate to the West Indies, Ireland 4 points afer there impressive victory against England and the Netherlands and the Netherlands finishing with 0 after lossing all there matches. They competed but were not good enough to get the victories they needed or wanted.
