Football News

Liverpool- Liverpool have had positive news from the injury count as Gerrard, Kelly and Shelvey are all expected to be back in training next week. The captain, Gerrard, has been out with an groin injury and was expected to be out for up to an month but is making quicker than expected recovery so far. Kelly has been out with an hamstring but looks to be on the mends. Shelvey has been out because of an knee operation but is also expected back. Aurelio is getting better but is still an couple of weeks off recovery with his hamstring injury.

Off the pitch Liverpool restructure by the Liverpool's owner Fenway Sports Group has continued as they have appointed Ian Ayre as managing director, and Damien Comolli has been made director is football at the club. The owners have made these appointments from the club by promoting these people saying "But importantly, Ian is also from Liverpool and understands the relationships between the club, the supporters and the city." The owners spoke highly of Comolli saying "In the short time that Damien [Comolli] has been at the club, he has impressed us greatly with his knowledge of the sport, his work ethic and his incisive intelligence". The only post to be settled is the long term manager of Liverpool. It is rumored that Dalglish will be offered in the summer but nothing offical yet.

FIFA- Sepp Blatter has said today he will step down from his post as FIFA president from 2015. He is running for re-election in at the end of May and the votes will be counted on the 1st of June. Fifa has set a deadline of 1 April for any other candidates to be submitted.

Arsenal- After an diffcult last couple of weeks for Arsenal some good news on the injury front as Djourou dislocated shoulder does not need reconstructive surgery. The club said "Johan will now begin a period of rehabilitation before returning to training in around a month." He has an chance of playing in the last month of the season as they look win the Premier League title.

Sunderland- John Mensah has won his appeal after getting sent off against Liverpool in the weekend. If the appeal was upheld then he would have got an 1 game suspention with more depending on committee meeting. He would have definatly missed the match against Manchester City. The manager Steve Bruce added "We thank the Football Association for considering our appeal, and naturally we're delighted John will be available for the game against Manchester City."

Blackburn- Blackburn have signed Aberdeen let back Myles Anderson on an free transfer. The deal will go through on the 1st of June. He plays left back but can play center back. In other Blackburn news the manager Steve Kean will not enter contract talks with Hoilett until the summer. Hoilett has been in good form recently scoring 4 goals in the last 9 games. His contract expires next summer and Kean is hopeful that a long term deal can be settled in the summer but he wants no distractions saying "Let's just keep him playing like that. Come the end of the season we can sit him down and hopefully sort out a long-term deal for him,".
