Tennis news

Dubai semi-final- As expected the finalist were Roger Federer and Djokovic as they both came over there semi-final opponents. Djokovic came through against Berdych 6-7, 6-2, 4-2 where had to retire hurt. Djokovic said it was his worst performance of the year. Federer had it easier as he beat Gasquet in straight sets 6-2, 7-5.

Dubai Final- Djokovic carried on his great start to 2011 as he beat Federer to defend his title in Dubai. Djokovic played an really good first set as he won it 6-3 breaking the Swiss twice as he won in just over 30 mins. The second set was an really good showing by both players but Djokovic broke him twice again. Even though Federer got one break back Djokovic came through and won 6-3,6-3.

Qatar semi- The new world number 1 Wozniacki eased into the final as she destroyed her opponent Marion Bartoli 6-1, 6-1. She was too powerful Bartoli had no response. In the other semi Zvonareva came through in a tough 3 set match against Jankovic. She won the first set 6-1 and then lost the second 6-2 and came through a nervy 3rd set 6-4.

Qatar Final- Wozniacki was looking for his second title in many weeks as she won Dubai last week. But it was Zvonareva who came up on top. She came through in 2 tight sets 6-4, 6-4. She broke Wozniacki twice in the first set. She broke back once but the last game of the set Zvonareva broke again to take t he first set. In the second fought back from 1 break down to win it 6-4.

Delray Beach (Florida)- Del Potro has won his first trophy since winning the US Open in 2009. Since then he has had a number of serious injures but hopefully this will be the kick start he needs to get back up. He beat Tipsarevic 6-4, 6-4. This victory will get him back inside the top 100 as he slowly gets back up the rankings where he deserves to be. He has had a good hard court mini season as he made the semi-finals of San Jose and Memphis as well.

And finally Heather Watson has failed to make it Monterrey Open in Mexico. She lost in the second round of qualification against Hradecka 5-7, 6-2, 6-2. This was after she beat Catalina Castano in the first round 2-6, 7-6, 6-0. She is a name that you should look out for as she is fast moving up those rankings. She is 130 in the world Watson. Within the next 2 years I think she will be within the top 50.
